A Day on Campus of KUG, at the esc medien kunst labor and various other locations in the city: Have a peek behind the scenes of the impuls Academy, enjoy the many offers during this long day, meet up with young interpreters and composers, who have made their way to Graz from more than 50 countries, ... and get a lot of first hand impressions of contemporary music: though concerts, performances, presentations, lectures, discussions and other formats such as Wandelkonzerte.

Composition beyond Music by no means excludes music, but above all it is an opportunity to reflect on presentation forms for acoustic works, for sound compositions that go beyond the classic concert setup. Site-specific compositions and installations, the presentation of sounds, sound production as a social pattern, the essentials of sound and music, music without sounds, technology and research into source material, the body in music, field recordings, sound and other media, perception and reality - these are just some of the potential themes to be explored.

10 young international composers and artists of the impuls Academy take part in this program and are presenting the results of this process, which is also accompagnied and documented by the video and sound artist Christine Schörkhuber, from February 22nd to 24th at the esc.

Composition beyond Music is a special project originally developed by impuls which started already in 2013 under the guidance of Peter Ablinger in Graz. It was then also set up within the EU network Ulysses at Gaudeamus Muziekweek (Utrecht), IMD (Darmstadt) and Time of Music (Vitasaari) with the support of the Culture Programme of the European Union. 2015 it is going to be continued under the guidance of Georg Nussbaumer.
