Sophie Schafleitner
Violin, Coach
Violinist Sophie Schafleitner has been a member of Klangforum Wien since 1997. The ensemble performs in varying formations—from solo and chamber music to orchestral—and, in addition to its own concert series at the Konzerthaus Wien, appears worldwide at the most important festivals and concert series dedicated to contemporary music.
As soloist and chamber musician, Sophie Schafleitner has performed at the Wiener Festwochen and Wien Modern, the Biennale München, Ruhrtriennale, Warsaw Autumn, Donaueschinger Musiktage, and the Salzburger Festspiele.
Her work as a violinist is shaped by collaboration and exchange with the most significant composers of our times. Several composers have dedicated their works for solo violin to her, including Liza Lim, Ying Wang, Hannes Kerschbaumer, and Aureliano Cattaneo. For her duo project with accordionist Krassimir Sterev, works have been composed by Liza Lim, Sara Glojnarić, Franck Bedrossian, Christof Dienz, and Mirela Ivičević, and new works are continually being commissioned.
Sophie Schafleitner served as an assistant of Prof. Gerhard Schulz’s violin class at the mdw. Currentlys he is a lecturer for violin and chamber music as part of the Professorship of Klangforum for Performance Practice in Contemporary Music at the KUG.
