"Composition beyond Music" - this is the guideline given by Peter Ablinger for a special program of impuls which will be continued also in the next three years in the context of the EU-network "Ulysses" at Gaudeamus Muziekweek (Utrecht), at IMD (Darmstadt), at IRCAM (Paris) and at Time of Music (Vitasaari), with support of the Culture Programme of the European Union.
Eight young composers and musicians as well as one instrument maker went for thinking about ways of acoustic presentation that go further than the typical classical concert setup. Field-Recordings, site-specific composing and installations, exhibiting sounds, soundworks as social pattern, the requirements of sound and music, music without sounds, technology and research of material, archeoacoustics, the body in music, sound and other media, perception and reality … all these are only a few of the approaches and topics which can arise in this project.
The results of this process, which will also be accompanied by video and sound artist Christine Schörkhuber, are presented from February 15th to 19th at the Minoriten Galerie. Live-performances at the Opening and Finissage.
