Saar Berger, horn + brass instruments

Horn player Saar Berger, born in 1980, has been a member of the Ensemble Modern since 2007. He studied at the Rubin Academy of music with Michael Slatkin and Chezi Nir in Tel Aviv before joining the Israeli Opera / Symphony Orchestra. Thanks to scholarships and awards from the Zvi and Ofra Meitar Family Fund and America-Israel cultural Foundation, he completed his studies in Berlin with Marie-Luise Neunecker and in Frankfurt with Erich Penzel and Esa Tapani before becoming the new horn member of the Ensemble Modern. Saar has developed collaborations with many young and established composers and had the chance to enrich the horn literature by performing extensively as soloist giving many world premieres of concertos and solo pieces. He has been a member & horn mentor of the Slokar-Branimir Academy and the Ljubljana international orchestra and in 2017 he joined the horn faculty of the Luzern Festival Academy. Saar Berger teaches at the Ensemble Modern Academy and is regularly invited to hold masterclasses around the world. The album "Traveling Pieces", a solo portrait with 17 new premieres for horn, played by Saar Berger was released in 2014 by the Ensemble Modern Media Label. The percussion & horn album "Stop & Horn" is available from the Slovenian Society of composers and was released in 2014. His latest album "Call, Studies & Games" with the Ensemble Modern Brass Trio containing 20 new pieces was released in 2017 by the Ensemble Modern Media Label.

Saar Berger will be tutoring at impuls from February 11th to 15th. Afterwards participants will work with Mike Svoboda and Bill Forman together with other other brass participants.
