Lars Mlekusch, conductor + saxophone

Lars Mlekusch is a conductor, saxophonist, educator and art manager who was born in Switzerland in 1978. From 2005 to  2017 he was a professor of saxophone and chamber music at the Konservatorium Wien University (Now: Musik und Kunst Privatuniversität der Stadt Wien) and since 2015 he is a professor of saxophone, chamber music and contemporary music at the Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK). 
Following his international career as a saxophonist, he is also pursuing a new career as a conductor. As such he has appeared at venues such as the Musikverein Wien, the Wiener Konzerthaus, the Cité de la Musique Strasbourg, the Casa da Musica Porto or the National Concert Hall Taipei and festivals such as the Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival, the Festival Wien Modern or the World Saxophone Congress. He was invited as a guest conductor with the Georgisches Kammerorchester Ingolstad, the ensemble Sond´Arte in Porto, the Cantus Ensemble in Zagreb or the Ensemble PHACE Vienna. He is the Artistic Director and conductor of the MIT ensemble in Taiwan and of the zürich saxophone collective. He is also the founder and Artistic Director of both the Vienna International Saxfest and the Zurich International Saxfest.  
Lars Mlekusch has performed throughout the world as a soloist, with orchestras or as a chamber musician. From 2000-2010 he was a regular guest saxophonist of the Klangforum Wien and from 2010-2016 he was the saxophone soloist of the Vienna based ensemble PHACE. 
He has been invited to teach masterclasses at many renowned institutions such as the Conservatoire de Paris CNSMD, Conservatorium of Amsterdam, Conservatoire de Strasbourg, Koninklijk Conservatorium and Conservatoire Royal Brussels, Chopin University of Music Warsaw, Conservatorio Giuseppe Verdi Milano, Royal College of Music London, Bejing Central Conservatory, Senzoku Gauken College Tokyo, Kunitachi College Tokyo, Northwestern University Chicago, Eastman School of Music, Manhattan School of Music, New England Conservatory, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, University of Miami, Bowling Green State University, University of Toronto. Furthermore, he has been on the faculties of the European Saxophone University Gap in 2011 and 2012, the impuls academy in Graz since 2011 and the Arosa Music Academy since 2007. He was invited as a jury member at many international competitions such as the M-Prize Chamber Arts Competition Ann Arbor USA, the Int. Adolphe Sax Competition in Dinant, the Int. Saxophone Competition Nova Gorica, the Jean-Marie Londeix Competition in Bangkok, the Nochta Saxophone Competition in Zagreb and the Deutscher Musikwettbewerb in Bonn. 

Lars Mlekusch studied saxophone with Marcus Weiss in Basel and Fredrick L. Hemke in Chicago. His main mentors in conducting are Arturo Tamayo and Emilio Pomárico.
