Identity and Self-Branding. Self-presentation for artists

Workshop with Helge Hinteregger and Philip Rggla

Being an artist means not just selling the art but the artist behind it. Even avoiding the "show" can  evoke images beyond the purely musical. Stereotypes can interfere with the arts message. However by challenging the audiences expectations in a musical and a social way the arts message can be brought to a new level. This is not only a challenging task for the professional musician but for the private person behind the artist as well.

Boon and Bane of Music Publishers

Discussion with Sarah Laila Standke (Universal Edition) | Pierluigi Billone (Composer) | Margarethe Maierhofer-Lischka (Schallfeld Ensemble)

Antje Mller (Ernst Krenek Instititut) moderation

In 1962 Ernst Krenek wrote in his article Verlegen, verlegt verlogen (a play on words with verlegen - to publish and verlogen - lying) about a composer's experiences with his publishers. Kreneks own experiences were numerous, and his oeuvre is still scattered around about 20 different publishers in different countries. What are the composers expectations? And what are the publishers obligations and possibilities? Does a composer actually need a publisher? Publishers, composers and presenters will discuss these questions, which seem to be more up-to-date than ever.
