impuls . 7th International Ensemble- and Composers-Academy for Contemporary Music 2011

Instrumental- and Ensemble-Classes

impuls offers students and young professionals the rare opportunity to intensively work with, learn and profit from the various experiences of internationally renowned musicians being active both as soloists as well as performing with some of the most outstanding ensembles of contemporary music such as Ensemble Modern, MusikFabrik NRW or Klangforum Wien.

Individual instruction as well as working within an ensemble-context will help overcome anxiety and unacquaintance deriving from being unfamiliar with contemporary music and supply the knowledge of special performance techniques and interpretation that contemporary music requires.
The participants will explore classical modern as well as recent ensemble literature, new forms of notation, frequently unconventional tonal structures and the vast variety of forms and expressions in modern and contemporary music.

Besides instrumental classes and ensemble work discussions and co-operations of instrumental- and composition-participants („ensemble meets composers“, "new compositions for flutes") will intensify a mutual and necessary exchange of knowledge between composer and interpreter.

Instrumental classes are offered for the following instruments:
violin, viola, cello, double bass, flute, clarinet, oboe, saxophone, trumpet and other brass instruments, cembalo, piano, percussion, accordion and voice.

New classes in 2011: accordion, trumpet, cembalo and voice.
For other instruments please check possibilities with the impuls-office: office(at)impuls(dot)cc

A special electronic class for musicians with Gerhard Eckel will also give interpreters the chance to work on pieces using different forms of (live-)electronics.

The number of students selected for these classes will be limited (from a minimum of about 3 to a maximum of about 12 per teacher).

A selection of individually trained solo-pieces, as well as chamber-, ensemble- and “ensemble meets composers”-pieces will be presented to the public at different concerts and in various locations during and at the end of impuls 2011 in Graz ... and of course all participants are invited to attend all other public programs of the impuls-Festival for free.
